Prevent
Prevent in Schools
Under the Counter Terrorism and Security Act 2015 the PRU has a statutory duty to have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism.
Our commitment to the Government’s strategy is one element within our overall arrangements to safeguard in line with our statutory duties set out in section 175 of the Education Act 2002 and should be read in conjunction with our Child Protection Policy, which can be found on our website. An information leaflet is also available at each of our three sites.
The Prevent Strategy aims to stop young people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism and ensures that they are given advice and support. As with other forms of safeguarding strategies, early intervention is always preferable.
Details of The government’s strategy and Prevent Duty guidance can be found on their website (www.gov.uk).
There is no place for extremist views of any kind in the PRU, whether from internal sources – pupils, staff or governors, or external sources – the PRU community, external agencies or individuals. Our pupils see the PRU as a safe place where they can explore controversial issues safely and where our teachers encourage and facilitate this – we have a duty to ensure this happens.
